L Spinoff/Matsuda Spinoff News
Monday, December 24th, 2007
The official website for L change the WorLd, the spinoff from the two manga-based Death Note films, has announced on Saturday that another spinoff special centering on the Tōta Matsuda character will be broadcasted in Japan. The theatrical L change the WorLd spinoff itself focuses on the iconoclastic detective L and a case he tackles during 23 crucial days in his life. Actor Sōta Aoyama reprised his Death Note role of Matsuda, the eager and naïve police detective who works with L, for the shooting of the theatrical spinoff. However, all of his scenes will be cut from the final print. Instead, those scenes will be combined with additional scenes shot later to create the tentatively titled “Spinoff Matsuda” special for television.
The official website also posted the second full trailer for L change the WorLd on Friday. (After the splash opening on the linked site ends, select the button that is second from the left.) Unlike the first one-minute trailer, this new two-minute trailer reveals more of the origin of the threat that L confronts and features the “I’ll Be Waiting” theme song sung by American rocker Lenny Kravitz. It also reveals many of the characters who will return in one form or another for the film.
Actor Ken’ichi Matsuyama reprises his role of L, but the reins of the spinoff film have been handed over to Hideo Nakata, the director best known for the Ringu film franchise. The film opens in Thailand, a country that hosted some on-location shooting for the film, on February 9 — the same day it opens in Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

http://main.deathgod.org/contest/2007-contest-info
Remember to tell your friends. The contest will be dependent on how many entries we get. There are three winners total, so that gives more chances to people.
Regarding the 3rd movie, there is supposed to be a novel form of it released. The link to this can be found here
Since this is sort of Death Note related, there was some plagarism by a manga called Megabaka, as related by animenewsnetwork
“In Friday, manga publisher Kodansha Inc. issued an apology for the alleged plagiarism of the popular Death Note manga that appeared in the January 11 issue (released on December 12) of Weekly Shonen Magazine Extra: Magazine Dragon.
According to Kodansha, the manga Megabaka by Naka Gomura was flagged after its release by readers. Those readers noticed that the manga included some images similar to those found in popular manga such as Death Note, Air Gear, and MPD-Psycho. After Kodansha representatives ruled that a large portion of Megabaka contained plagiarized images, Gomura admitted to the acts, and an apology was issued. “
The images of these can be found here and here.

Death Note L’s Prequel Videogame
Tuesday, December 18th, 2007
The official Japanese site for Konami’s DN game has posted a flash video of the L’s prequel videogame coming to the DS. The game comes out on February 8, 2008 (2 days before the spinoff L movie). The summary for the game is as follows:
The player assumes the role of a rookie FBI agent who is knocked out during an undercover investigation. The player wakes up in a strange hotel and tries to escape despite the various traps laid out throughout the building. The genius detective L provides help in the escape via a fictional in-game PDA, and the player feeds L information that is gathered throughout the hotel and outside. The software also includes a separate “L Communicator” mode in which users can make friends with L by giving him sweets. If the user succeeds in making friends with L, L will “talk” with the user via voice.
