Death Note TV Special to be Three-Hour Director’s Cut
The upcoming Death Note special broadcast, which was announced during the last episode of the animated suspense television series, will be a three-hour Death Note Director’s Cut: Compete Ending Edition special that airs at 8:03 p.m. on August 31 on Japan’s NTV. It will mainly be a compilation of the confrontations between the vigilante Light and the detective L, re-edited from the perspective of Light’s Shinigami (God of Death) Ryuk. All-new dialogue and soundtrack will be recorded, and scenes will have additional animation that could not be included in the original series.

How to Read 13 American Release \ Episode 37 (End of Series)

Viz announced in the August 2007 issue of American Shonen Jump that they would be releasing “Death Note 13: How to Read” in February 2008. They will have excerpts from HtR in coming issues of SJ until it is finally released. The August 2007 issue features Ryuk’s profile.
No further details, such whether or not extras from the Japanese special edition of HtR will be released, have been given at this time.

Death Note Post-Finale Primetime Airing Planned in Japan
The June 26 Japanese finale of the Death Note suspense television anime series revealed that a primetime airing has been greenlit for this summer. More details on this broadcast will be announced at a future date. Mantan Web reports that the special broadcast will add new sequences that were not in the anime version initially.
Viz Media to Release First Death Note DVD in November
Viz Media announced that the much anticipated first North American DVD volume of the Death Note suspense anime series will ship on November 20. The four-episode volume will come in a US$24.98 Standard Edition and a US$39.98 Limited Collector’s Edition. The 15,000-copy Limited Collector’s Edition will include a figurine of the shinigami Ryuk. The remaining volumes will ship every month thereafter in similar Standard and figurine-bundled Limited Collector’s Editions.

Viz has sent out Cease & Desist orders to all DN fansubbers, which demand subbers stop subbing Death Note by June 22nd. Animanda is dropping Death Note, and Kuro-Hana is undecided as to whether they will sub the last two episodes. As always, myself or someone else will post the RAWs and any subs that come out for the final two episodes. Stay tuned.
