Ryuk wasn’t the one that looked for a new user, Rem did that. But it is safe to assume that he didn’t go back to the Shinigami Realm since his Note was still in the Human world.

@admin: I think they meant the time when Light let L lock him up and he gave up his ownership of the Death Note.
So basically scenes from Ryuk’s time back in the shinigami world? o_o
